Long Covid and Post-Covid

LONG COVID AND POST-COVID CONDITIONS

Depression and anxiety, tinnitus, earaches, feeling sick, diarrhea, stomach aches, loss of appetite, a high temperature, cough, headaches, sore throat, and changes to sense of smell or taste are all possible symptoms of COVID-19.

In Chinese medicine, COVID-19 is considered a type of flu or cold, which means that the body is being attacked externally (as opposed to internal health problems like digestive issues, urinary tract infections, or sleep problems). Even though COVID-19 is more contagious and has more severe symptoms, it can still lead to internal problems such as lung and digestive issues. Overall, it is still considered a fast-developing and more severe form of the flu. Therefore, the treatment principle in Chinese Medicine remains the same, which is to clear the external factors from the body and make the body "sweat out" the "coldness."

According to medical and scientific research, COVID-19 can cause inflammation, endotheliitis, vasoconstriction, hypercoagulability, and edema, which can impact the entire body, from the lungs to the heart, kidneys, brain, and even the reproductive and immune systems of both males and females. Even if someone recovers from COVID-19 and tests negative, they may still experience multi-organ effects or autoimmune conditions with symptoms that can last for weeks, months, or even years after the illness. Multi-organ effects can involve many body systems, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, skin, and brain, and this is known as Long COVID or Post-COVID conditions.

The reason for Long Covid and Post-COVID conditions in Chinese Medicine is that the "external" was not completely "cleared up." The fascia of the organs was affected by the "external" sick "Qi."

In Chinese Medicine history, in 1642 AD, Dr. Wu You-Ke published a book called "Wen Yi Lun" (which means "On Plague Diseases"). It was the first book to discuss the plague that occurred at that time and how to use herbs to treat it.
The Home Therapy Program

For faster recovery, Moxa, a heating therapy, is recommended but not necessary. The home therapy program lasts for 10 days for Covid and 1 month for long Covid or post-Covid, with herbs prescribed for 15 days and modified based on tongue picture and symptom changes. The herbs can be picked up locally or shipped throughout the United States by priority mail (extra $10, arriving in 2-3 days). For further information, please visit the home therapy page or contact Dr Yaron Wu via email or text (408) 480 2860.

Chinese medicine

Even today in China, the Chinese medicine principle outlined in this book is still applied for SARS in 2003 and for Covid in 2020. Chinese Medicine believes that the fascia of organs (膜原) was affected by plague-like Covid, not just the lungs like regular flu or the common cold. Therefore, all body organs, which have a fascia wrapped around to protect and divide them, need more thorough treatment for Covid and after Covid systems. Otherwise, if the "external" is not "cleared out" (Chinese medicine calls it 解表) for any organ, it will have a long-term impact on that organ.

Tongue Analysis

Dr Yaron Wu, L.Ac., DAOM, who spent decades learning herb prescription and pulse reading from five nationally known masters from China, has developed a no-contact tongue diagnosis for Covid and post-Covid. Based on the patient's tongue picture, along with a simple health questionnaire and birthday calculation, herbs are prescribed and modified based on changes in symptoms and tongue appearance. The herbs are very low dosage, packed like a tea bag, and taste good for most people. During the herbal therapy time, patients are advised to avoid milk, dairy, raw foods (including salad and fruits), cold drinks, soda, and consume less meat protein (<6%) as Chinese Medicine believes all of the above will develop "coldness" and "dampness," delaying the body's recovery process.
